Workshop Meeting Time Change

The Board of Commissioners has changed the time for Workshop Meetings for the remainder of 2013. The meeting time has changed from 7:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.

The following meetings will now be held at 7:30 P.M. February 20, March20, April 17, May 15, September 18, October 16 and November 20.

Sewer Rate Increase for 2013

Due to potential projects proposed by the Borough of Pottstown for improvements at the sewer plant and maintenance to our sewer system, we are forced to increase our sewer rates for 2013. This increase will be effective beginning January 1, 2013.

The Sewer Department has maintained costs on the operation of our system, but capital improvements are necessary to the WPT system. The upgrades at the sewer plant and
to the WPT system the next few years will be in excess of $500,000. We contributed a payment of $96,000 to Pottstown Borough in 2012 for plant improvements and will be required to pay our share of the water pump project in the amount of $115,000 in 2013.

The Township will only be increasing the EDU Fee for all customers, metered and non- metered. This increase will include a Three Dollar per EDU Capital Expense Fund
Charge. There will be no increase in the usage fee. The following increase will become effective January 1, 2013.

2013 Dog Licensing Begins

On December 1st of each year the West Pottsgrove Township begins to sell new and renewed dog licenses for the upcoming year. As you know all dog owners are required to license their dogs with the Pennsylvania Dog Law Enforcement Office via their respective county treasurers. Revenues from dog licenses are used to fund dog law enforcement throughout the state and as importantly, from a local perspective, to maintain a registry of dogs and owners which is accessible by local law enforcement when needed.

Attached to this communication you will find PDFs of Treasurer, Jason Salus’ 2013 Dog License Flyer. It is Treasurer Salus’ desire to communicate the importance of, and requirement to, license dogs as broadly as possible, therefore we are providing this document to you for your information should you get constituent questions.

The budget’s will be adopted at the December 19, 2012 Board of Commissioners Meeting to be held at the Township building at 7 PM.

Summer 2012 Township Newsletter

Wow! Where did the summer of 2012 go? And why doesn’t winter fly by just as quickly? Fall has already crept up on us and even though the temperatures are still in the upper 80’s the cool weather “should be” just around the corner. Weatherman I’m not, but I am predicting a long, cold winter this year. Why? Because the squirrels have darn near eaten up every single hickory nut, chestnut and acorn on my property and in the process left me with one heck of a mess in my backyard. It has been a few years since the little buggers have eaten up so many of the nuts. So either a bunch more squirrel families moved into the area or I’m dead on and we can expect one of those long, cold and miserably dreary winters.

Anyway, on a brighter note, I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. Hopefully many of you were able to get up to our Community Pool to swim and cool off. We believe we had a good turnout this season and most definitely the newly “spruced up” picnic grove at the rear of the pool grounds was a huge hit this year and was rented out every weekend. So if you need somewhere special to hold a party or get together, surely you should consider renting out “the Grove”. If you haven’t seen it lately we have added a new pavilion, grills to cook on, new picnic tables to relax on and a large area for you and your family, friends and/or guests to stretch out and relax on. So if you need a place to hold a family gathering, a party or even a relaxed business meeting, well then you should look into renting “the Grove”.

And speaking of relaxing and eating and having a good time, please mark your calendars for this year’s Community Day at the Township on Sunday September 16th. As always, you can expect great food, great music, great fun and great West Pottsgrove people all in one place. So I hope to see y’all there. On a more serious note, please be sure to lock your vehicles at night, especially if you park on the street. An unlocked vehicle is an invitation for disaster, so make it a habit of playing it safe and lock those doors.

Lastly, please remember that your Board of Commissioners meet on the first Wednesday of every month and although I know everyone is busy doing one thing or another it is important to stay informed as to the decisions made by the Board. And don’t forget that the 450th person in the door for a Board meeting receives a free steak dinner!

Information on New Trash Hauling

As of July 1, 2012 a company called Waste Management will be the new trash hauler for West Pottsgrove Township. Recently, they sent bills out to all residents. Unfortunately in error, they neglected to send the informational flyer along with the bill and it has come to our attention and theirs, that all of the service locations noted on each bill are incorrect. We apologize for this confusion and it will be corrected as soon as possible!
