2016 Montgomery County Recycling Event Flyers for Household Hazardous Waste, Paper Shredding, and Tires
Concern about the lack of county collection events should be directed to the appropriate State Representative and Senator. Haulers and disposal sites are prohibited from accepting TVs and computers as trash, and without recycling opportunities, residents may resort to dumping. An amendment to the state electronics recycling law, called the Covered Device Recycling Act, is needed to ensure the availability of recycling outlets. Overview of the Covered Device Recycling Act
Bi-Weekly Curbside & Recycle Program
The Township of West Pottsgrove supports recycling in an effort to save natural resources and energy, reduce solid waste and consequently reduce the landfill burden. To insure that the recycling program is a success, please follow the directions outlined below. West Pottsgrove Township requires all residents to separate the following materials from their regular household waste.
- Aluminum cans, foil, and plates
- Corrugated cardboard boxes – flatten and bundle (2’x2′)
- Plastics #1 through #7
- Any colored glass jars and bottles
- Newspapers and junk mail
- Steel cans
Garbage may be placed curbside at 5:00pm the day before collection. There is no limit on the number of trash bags or containers placed for collection. Please have all trash placed curbside for pickup in a timely manner as there will be no return trips for missed pickups. If a holiday falls on a Wednesday, collection will occur the next day. Please contact the Township for a recycling container (610) 323-7717.
Construction & Demolition
One trash receptacle or one plastic garbage bag containing construction and demolition waste or one single bundle of construction debris 4 feet in length, 2 feet in width and 2 feet in height and not exceeding 60 pounds that is properly secured or tied may be put out for each collection.
Due to forces beyond our control, Montgomery County will not be able to hold electronics collection events in 2015. Although state law requires electronics manufacturers to offer recycling opportunities for TVs and computers, those manufacturers are no longer sponsoring county recycling collections in the Southeastern PA region.
- Best Buy will accept computers and TVs 32” and under for free recycling when dropped off at their store. They will also pick up TVs from homes for a fee.
- Salvation Army Thrift Store in Montgomeryville accepts working TVs of any size and shape as well as working computers and electronics. They are located at 671 Bethlehem Pike, Montgomeryville, PA 18936, phone number 215-631-1570.
- Other than municipal drop offs and collections for residents only, there are no free disposal outlets for TVs over 32” that no longer work.
Limited to 2 receptacles (either plastic bags or garbage cans) per pickup.
Leaves, garden residue, shrubbery and similar items must be placed in biodegradable bags that will be collected during the months of October and November only.

Waste Collection and Recycling Contract Information
The Township has finalized it’s comprehensive Waste Collection and Recycling program for the next five years. The contract started on July 12th, 2012. West Pottsgrove Township solicited bids from four companies. Under the municipal bidding process a local company, Waste Management, was the successful low bidder.
The Waste Management bid for the next five years is $67.98 per quarter for each household. This fee will remain the same during the term of the contract. The existing Township program provides a comprehensive level of services in which there are no changes except for the service day, which will change to Wednesdays.
Waste Management will continue to bill each household directly and provide each household with a new 64-gallon recycling container. Customser service questions can be directed to Waste Management at (800) 328-1717.
