Senator Bob Mensch Holds Successful Montgomery County Veteran ID Event

Harrisburg – Senator Bob Mensch (R-24) held a successful and well-attended Veteran ID event with State Representative Justin Simmons (R- 131) on Friday, September 16 for Montgomery County veterans.

Over 40 veterans and their family members attended. Veterans met with the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds who recorded their discharge papers and provided them with a Veteran Photo ID card. The cards entitle veterans to a discount at over 500 Montgomery County businesses.

“I’m pleased that Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds is able to provide this valuable outreach program to our veterans,” said Mensch. “The Vet ID program is a great way to honor and thank our vets for their service and promote small businesses in Montgomery County.”

Staff from US Senator Pat Toomey’s office and Congressman Ryan Costello’s office also assisted constituents with federal-related questions.

Senator Mensch is also hosting a free shredding event with Representative Simmons on Saturday, October 22 from 9am to 11am at the Red Hill Fire Company parking lot (71 East Fourth Street, Red Hill, PA). Constituents can bring up to 6 bags of paper to be shredded. In order to ensure that they are able to serve as many constituents as possible, paper cannot be accepted from businesses or commercial entities.

West Pottsgrove Community Pool Closing to Financial Reasons

To: Members and customers of the West Pottsgrove Community Pool

Earlier this week the Township was notified by Bennington Pool Services (the private operator the West Pottsgrove Community Pool) that they will be closing the pool to the public for the remainder of the season due to financial reasons.

Township staff did meet with the operator to discuss alternate options and explored other options to try and keep the pool open for the remainder of the season.

However, given the juncture of time that we are at with regard to the swimming season and the time and other resources required to get the pool properly setup and staffed, the township decided that we would not be able to take over the operations for the rest of the season.

The pool operator also informed us that he will be contacting members on what they will need to do to get a refund of their paid membership fees.

Both the Township staff and officials agree that we should now begin planning on how we are going to proceed with pool operations for next season and going forward.

Respectfully submitted,
Craig Lloyd
Manager, West Pottsgrove Township

As many of you may have heard this will be my last newsletter as I will be retiring. I want to thank the Board of Commissioners that hired me for the position of Township Manager and gave me the outstanding opportunity to represent the Township. I watched with every passing election changes in the Board and noted that all Commission-ers are serving to make the community a better place to be.

2016 Recycling Information Now Available

We now have updated versions of Montgomery County recycling event flyers for household hazardous waste, paper shredding, and tires for 2016.

Due to forces beyond our control, Montgomery County will not be able to hold electronics collection events in 2016. Although state law requires electronics manufacturers to offer recycling opportunities for TVs and computers, those manufacturers are no longer sponsoring county recycling collections in the Southeastern PA region.

  • Best Buy will accept computers and TVs 32” and under for free recycling when dropped off at their store. They will also pick up TVs from homes for a fee. This option may be going away, but for now they are still accepting e-waste.
  • Salvation Army Thrift Store in Montgomeryville accepts working TVs of any size and shape as well as working computers and electronics. They are located at 671 Bethlehem Pike, Montgomeryville, PA 18936, phone number 215-631-1570.
  • Other than municipal drop offs and collections for residents only, there are no free disposal outlets for TVs over 32” that no longer work.

Happy New Year

West Pottsgrove Township would like to wish everyone a happy and safe 2016!
