Construction Postponed on Grosstown Road (Route 4042) Bridge Project in West Pottsgrove Township

Montgomery County Bridge to be replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership

King of Prussia, PA – Construction for the Grosstown Road (Route 4042) bridge, which spans Manatawny Creek in West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County has been postponed. It was previously scheduled to begin during the week of July 24.

Construction is now expected to begin during the week of August 7 and be complete in late November. During this time, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along West High Street (Route 4031) and Manatawny Street (Route 4037).

In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may still change.

This bridge is referred to as JV-219 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.

The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.

Senator Bob Mensch Holds Successful Montgomery County Veteran ID Event

Harrisburg – Senator Bob Mensch (R-24) held a successful and well-attended Veteran ID event with State Representative Justin Simmons (R- 131) on Friday, September 16 for Montgomery County veterans.

Over 40 veterans and their family members attended. Veterans met with the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds who recorded their discharge papers and provided them with a Veteran Photo ID card. The cards entitle veterans to a discount at over 500 Montgomery County businesses.

“I’m pleased that Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds is able to provide this valuable outreach program to our veterans,” said Mensch. “The Vet ID program is a great way to honor and thank our vets for their service and promote small businesses in Montgomery County.”

Staff from US Senator Pat Toomey’s office and Congressman Ryan Costello’s office also assisted constituents with federal-related questions.

Senator Mensch is also hosting a free shredding event with Representative Simmons on Saturday, October 22 from 9am to 11am at the Red Hill Fire Company parking lot (71 East Fourth Street, Red Hill, PA). Constituents can bring up to 6 bags of paper to be shredded. In order to ensure that they are able to serve as many constituents as possible, paper cannot be accepted from businesses or commercial entities.

West Pottsgrove Community Pool Closing to Financial Reasons

To: Members and customers of the West Pottsgrove Community Pool

Earlier this week the Township was notified by Bennington Pool Services (the private operator the West Pottsgrove Community Pool) that they will be closing the pool to the public for the remainder of the season due to financial reasons.

Township staff did meet with the operator to discuss alternate options and explored other options to try and keep the pool open for the remainder of the season.

However, given the juncture of time that we are at with regard to the swimming season and the time and other resources required to get the pool properly setup and staffed, the township decided that we would not be able to take over the operations for the rest of the season.

The pool operator also informed us that he will be contacting members on what they will need to do to get a refund of their paid membership fees.

Both the Township staff and officials agree that we should now begin planning on how we are going to proceed with pool operations for next season and going forward.

Respectfully submitted,
Craig Lloyd
Manager, West Pottsgrove Township
