About

History

West Pottsgrove Township was established in 1900 and took its area from Upper Pottsgrove Township. This small township is situated in part on the Schuylkill River and in terms of location, is the western most municipality in Montgomery County.

Although a separate governmental entity, West Pottsgrove is an integral part of the Greater Pottstown area which includes Pottstown Borough, Lower and Upper Pottsgrove Townships, and several bordering municipalities in Chester and Berks Counties. Our township provides a variety of employment opportunities for the area.

By virtue of its location, West Pottsgrove looks to the Pottstown area for public services, hospital facilities, as well as certain cultural and recreational activities. A portion of West Pottsgrove is often referred to as Stowe, but still has the same zip code as Pottstown.
