West Pottsgrove Township Dissolves Relationship with West End Fire Company No. 1

Stowe, PA – On Wednesday August 18, 2021 the West Pottsgrove Township Board of Commissioners unanimously approved, effective immediately, to dissolve the relationship between the Township and West End Fire Company No. 1 as the fire protection provider for West Pottsgrove Township.

Pottstown Borough Fire Department has been contracted to be the primary fire protection provider of West Pottsgrove Township. Since November 2020 they have been acting as the primary on mutual aid for all calls within West Pottsgrove Township.

During that time, their professionalism and reliability have been on full display, giving the Board of Commissioners faith that the Township is adequately covered for fire service protection.

This course of action, taken by the Township, was decided after much consideration to the circumstances that continue to plague West End. Their instability at leadership positions, financial distress, legal matters including investigations by the Attorney General’s office, building maintenance neglect, and questions concerning response times have been under scrutiny.

The Board of Commissioners have a duty to provide fire protection services to the residents of West Pottsgrove Township, due to the aforementioned issues, it was decided West End is no longer a viable option to ensure the safety of our residents at this time.

We appreciate the residents support during this time, as we solidify fire protection with the assistance of Pottstown Borough.
