Due to increased costs from the Borough of Pottstown for operation of the sewer system and improvements at the sewer plant, we are forced to increase our sewer rates for 2012. This increase will be effective beginning January 1, 2012. Even with the proposed increase these new rates are lower than rates charged in Upper & Lower Pottsgrove and the Borough of Pottstown.
The Sewer Department has maintained costs on the operations and maintenance of the system, but this does not cover our share for upgrades at the plant. The upgrades at the sewer plant over the next few years will be in excess of $500,000. The first stage of the upgrades has been completed with the Township share being $120,000 for 2012.
The Township will only be increasing the usage rate on metered customers and the Base-rate charge on non- metered customers. The following increase will become effective January 1, 2012.
